Dr. Mihalko received advanced training in cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, relational/cultural, dialectal behavioral therapies, existential psychoanalysis, and clinical hypnosis. His clinical practice is grounded in mindfulness, informed by the relational/cultural model developed by the Stone Center, and integrates both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapies. Dr. Mihalko works with a wide range of people who are coping with a variety of life issues. He has a particular affinity for working with issues related to anxiety and depression as well as self-injurious and addictive behaviors that limit the freedom of human desire. Dr. Mihalko also enjoys working with people who seek to enhance their creativity by exploring their psyche. Dr, Mihalko's clinical and research interests are focused on the intersection between the individual and their larger communities as well as how people who are traditionally from groups that are oppressed, forgotten, or hurt can heal and find liberation. He has spoken at numerous national conferences on these issues.
On a more personal note, Dr. Mihalko has an avid interest in stories, including those told through literature moves, and the spoken work; and through the metaphors of music, art, photography, and dance. He balances the seriousness of psychotherapy with a gentle and irreverent sense of humor.
Dr. Mihalko is a licensed psychologist and maintains a private practice on Harvard Square in Cambridge Massachusetts. He works with adolescents and adults both individually and as couples. He has a special interest in helping couples (of all different configurations) create healthy clear lines of communication and understanding. Jason actively blogs at Magnolia the Therapy Dog and the Irreverent Psychologist. He actively volunteers with New England Pet Partners and serves on their board of directors.
